Ozomatli Announce 2nd Worldwide Quarantine Block Party

Watch Live Zoom Event Cinco De Mayo Sequel Free, Plus After Party, & More

LOS ANGELES, CA – Celebrated culture blenders Ozomatli threw a wild Worldwide Quarantine Block Party to celebrate their 25th anniversary and raise money to benefit other artists last Saturday, April 25 on their website. The event was such a smash success, they’ve announced a sequel!

Like the first event, Part 2 of the Worldwide Quarantine Block Party will be a livestream fundraising event, hosted in conjunction with the House of Blues Music Forward Foundation. Again, it will help generate funds for musicians and bands impacted by the recent COVID19 outbreak and the loss of their tours worldwide. While the event is free, the band encourages those who can afford to help to give to this important cause.

Returning hosts Pili Montilla and KCRW’s Raul Campos will kick off the fireworks at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time. The event will also include a premium VIP after party available for purchase. Chali 2na and Cut Chemist will be back, along with new surprise guests to be announced!

The first event was unlike anything ever attempted before! In addition to live music, commentary, and giveaways, the band premiered their latest music video, Dos Cosas and created a brand-new song live during the broadcast event, all while staying quarantined safe at home! They promise even crazier fun this time around!

“We really loved how things turned out and just want to keep the love going,” says a spokesperson for the band.

“Music helps us share our connection to one another, to strengthen it, to remind us we are not alone during hard times. Now more than ever we need to remember that. We are proud to share our music with the world and help other artists at the same time. Come help us celebrate and keep the music alive!”

KEYWORDS: Ozomatli, Chali 2na, Cut Chemist, House of Blues, Music Forward Foundation, COVID19, Quarantine, Block Party, Zoom, Fundraiser, Pili Montilla, KCRW, Raul Campos, Cumbia, Dance, Latin, Fusion, Live, Cinco De Mayo.

Over the course of Ozomatli’s 25 year career, the group has sold hundreds of thousands of albums, consistently sold out concerts around the world, and performed on high profile TV shows like The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel, Tonight Show w/Jay Leno, and Austin City Limits. The band also stars in Drew Barrymore’s Never Been Kissed and has been featured on PBS Kids.

Their music — a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga— has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around Los Angeles.

Ozomatli has won four Grammy Awards.

With his unmistakable baritone voice and 6-and-a-half foot charm, Chali 2na has established himself as one of hip-hop’s preeminent and most charismatic personalities.   He’s also garnered renowned praise as a visual artist across a wide spectrum of mediums.  Most known for co-founding music groups, Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Chali released his debut solo album “Fish Outta Water” in 2009.

Since then, he has been touring the world with his 3-piece band known as the House Of Vibe.  Breathing new life into his musical past, he recently completed “Against The Current”, a music and art project that combines a series of (5) genre bending EPs with a coffee table book featuring original artwork and photography from Chali himself.

Chali relocated from Chicago to LA in the early 80’s when he was entering his teens and was instantly engulfed by the worlds of hip hop and graffiti.  As his music career began to flourish, his artistic talents also expanded past the walls of city streets and onto canvas and into galleries. Now, as Chali’s collection continues to grow he is finding unique ways to share his visual art with the world, and demand for it is snowballing.

His growing reputation as a Hip Hop Legend paints a bright future as he continues to build momentum with his artwork, voice-over work, and an increasing variety of performance collaborations; including his most recent partnership with UK Producer, Krafty Kuts and reconnecting with Ozomatli, 20 years after the release of their debut LP.

Cut Chemist has been recording and performing for nearly 30 years.  He started DJing in 1984, at age 11. In ’87, 14 year old Cut started recording with his friends including Chali 2na (Jurassic 5). Cut first became known as a founding member of both the rap groups, Jurassic 5 and the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. Keeping his involvement with both groups in tandem with one another, Cut has developed a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his ethic for the hip hop tradition.

From a 10 year friendship and an array of professional encounters stems the union of two of the most influential figures in the Latin alternative music scene in Los Angeles. Emmy winning TV host and producer Pili Montilla and renowned DJ Raul Campos join forces to bring you the best of Latin music in an all new uncensored, raw, genuine and bilingual podcast
